Making homemade vanilla extract is actually a fairly simple process. In short, cut up some vanilla beans, and put them in vodka. In 1-6 months, you’ve got vanilla extract! Of course, there are a few subtleties with the exact proportions, but that can be easily found online. We made our extract with a recipe we found online, adding 30g of beans per 250 mL of vodka, for a total of 27 beans in ~1 L of vodka. In 1 month, we should have some sort of usable extract, but I’m told it’s best after at least 6 months! I’ll let you know what happens in September!
