Kat and I are trying to live a little frugally at the moment, with me unemployed and her just starting a new job (and lacking in paychecks for a while). That being said, entertainment is a little hard to come by. Our entertainment on this Saturday was a trip to Lina’s Italian Market in NW Calgary.

After picking up our groceries (mozzarella, pizza dough, pizza sauce, and capicola for dinner tonight), we grabbed some lunch for ourselves. At only $6 for a giant panini, and $3.50 for a huge italian cappucino (not to mention the most amazing tiermisu I’ve ever had), we really enjoyed our lunch. I highly recommend Lina’s italian market!

On a slow Friday night, we turned in a bit early, and played on the computer. But that’s ok! A slow Friday night is a nice change from the hectic stress of the rest of the week.

Kat and I were looking for a nice dinner for ourselves to celebrate her first paycheck from her new job. Though we were shooting for a smaller, local place, we both caved when we passed Red Lobster on the road and were craving seafood. (It didn’t help that i had just watched the Iron Chef episode where the secret ingredient was lobster.)

Moving to our new apartment, we needed to rent a Uhaul truck to take over some of the larger furniture from her mother’s house. This was my first time driving anything larger than my car (unless you count a small pickup truck when I first got my learner’s permit 6 years ago). Surprisingly, it wasn’t too difficult, at least once I learned that I had to take my turns a little wide.

While we were moving into our new apartment in the Bridlewood neighborhood of Calgary, we found that the olive oil I brought from The Macaroni Company in Pittsburgh was absolutely delicious. We ran across the street to the grocery store and picked up a baguette and a hunk of double cream Brie for a delicious and simple dinner.

Me hanging out with Harry, Kat’s and my orange tabby cat. He’s only 5 months old, and very spunky. He likes to explore anything and everything he can find. And of course, his favorite past time is to torment Kat’s other cats, who are both much older and bigger than him.

Alas, a final night stuck in a hotel by myself. Despite the great motel, it’s still sad to be in a lonely motel room.

Driving on the road in North Dakota can be quite boring. The road is almost uniformly flat, straight, and you’ll be lucky to pass someone every 30 minutes. What better way to pass the time than to take a photo!

My first night on the trip driving up to Canada, I stayed in a Super 8 in Hudson, WI, right on the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota.
